Birmingham has long been the hallowed ground of heavy riffs and industrial grit, and The Davidson Trio are ensuring that legacy remains in safe hands. The powerhouse outfit has officially announced the release of their second studio project, a 5-track EP titled Follow You, set to drop on May 1st, 2026.

Following the success of their debut album Cougar, the trio is shifting gears. This new installment promises a darker, edgier, and more rock-oriented sound—a return to the raw, instinctive energy that the band members are renowned for.

“It just feels natural; this kind of music just flows out of us when we get together in the studio,” says guitarist and songwriter Ben Bicknell.

A Slow-Burning Battle: New Single ‘War’

In advance of the full EP, the band is rolling out three singles, starting with the hauntingly atmospheric “War,” scheduled for release on March 14th.

“War” is a masterclass in mood. Featuring eerie, crying guitar lines and a massive, rumbling bassline that mimics the steady march of a military advance, the track captures the essence of struggle. Singer and bassist Owen Davidson explains that the song reflects the “everyday battles” we face—defending culture, loved ones, and passions.

For the gearheads and tone-seekers at Guitardoor, “War” delivers a psychedelic, slow-burning vibe reminiscent of Robin Trower, proving that sometimes the most powerful statements are made in the spaces between the notes.

Track-by-Track: Riffs, Homages, and Hendrixian Grooves

The Follow You EP isn’t just a collection of songs; it’s a journey through the band’s influences and personal frustrations.

The EP closes with the band’s first-ever ballad. Featuring searing lead guitar work reminiscent of Gary Moore, it’s a soulful exploration of loss and longing.

Mr Greasy Snake: A fast-paced, guitar-driven opener. Bicknell provides heavy riffs that serve as a warning against the “shady characters” of the music industry.

War: The aforementioned psychedelic centerpiece.

Disillusion: This track kicks off with a drumming masterclass from Ellis Brown. Bicknell’s “Hendrixian” guitar riffs drive home a lyrical critique of the music industry “circus,” ending with a “cheeky nod” to Rage Against the Machine.

Song For Phil: A true rock anthem and a blatant love letter to the late, great Phil Lynott. With dual guitar harmonies and a solid driving backbeat, you’d be forgiven for thinking this was a lost Thin Lizzy gem.

Follow You: The EP closes with the band’s first-ever ballad. Featuring searing lead guitar work reminiscent of Gary Moore, it’s a soulful exploration of loss and longing.

Overcoming the Elements

The path to Follow You wasn’t easy. Drummer Ellis Brown noted that the band fought through floods, health issues, and strict budgets to get these five tracks recorded at Otterhead Studios with producer Ellis Powell-Bevan.

The result is a record that sounds like a band at the height of their powers, leaning into their blues-rock roots while pushing into heavier, more modern territory.
